International Folklore & Culture Festival: Turkey, Istanbul (July – Aug 2015)

FolkWay – International Folklore Festival – Constantinople, Turkety, 2015

General Information

Festival organisation committee will provide one English speaking guide to each group for helping programme schedule. Groups can perform with live music or playback CD – USB flash disk. If the folklore groups accept & agree with the festival conditions, have to fill up the participation form and send us with a short brief about their background and their previously activities in abroad and group photos by e-mail with attachment file. During the festival, there will be three times of gift exchanges, two of them with Municipality Mayors and one of them with the festival committee at welcoming meeting.

Terms & Conditions – Useful Information

Most programs are held in the evening however, some day time programs are also scheduled. Performances are approximately 10-12 minutes. The time of the performance allowed will be strictly limited. All groups will show of their performance max 2 or 3 nights, groups shall perform in Istanbul’s different municipality. We are going to invite 15 countries. (Folklore, Modern Dance, Choir, music, children, young and adult groups).

The groups will arrive here on 29.07.15 at afternoon (will provide only dinner at that day) and groups will leave from the festival on 03.08.15 after the breakfast.

Festival Schedule

  • Day 1: Arrival in Istanbul.
  • Day 2: Groups are going to visit Byzantine historic district; Blue Mosque (free) – St. Sofia (10€)- Topkapı Palace (10€)- Grand Bazaar.
  • Day 3: Folklore Groups Practice & Performance Day.
  • Day 4: Free Time / Boat Trip at Bosphorus (10€) – Festival performance for municipality.
  • Day 5: Free Time & Festival performance for Municipality.
  • Day 6: Breakfast – Departure of all folklore groups.

Festival Accommodation

A. University Dormitory Rooms – 95 € per person – Festival Period (5 Nights)

  • We will provide to you three meals per day ( lunches with packed meal ) and accommodation at the University dormitory, each room has 6 beds capacity and suitable for max. 4 people using, pillow, sheet, blanket wardrobe.  Toilet and showers are at the same floor. Free parking lot. Basketball and Football field, canteen, buffet, library, rehearsal rooms. If the number of the group participants is more than 40, the participation of the leader is FREE of charge. If the group comes by own bus, one leader and two bus drivers are free of charge too we cannot provide rooms for couples. We can only provide double rooms for drivers or leader.

B. Hotels 2* / Hotels 3* – 160 € per person – Festival Period (5 Nights)

C. Hotels 4* – 190 € per person – Festival Period (5 Nights)

  • Each room has 2-3 beds, we are going to provide to the groups three meals per day (lunches with packed meal). Hotel is in the centre of the Kadikoy and it is named Adenotel. If the number of the group participant is more than 40, the participation of the leader is FREE of charge.

All payments have to be pay in cash (travel-cheque not acceptable) at the first day of the festival. If the group wants to stay at hotel, they should send their deposit (1000 Euro) until end of May 2015, in order to pay to hotel reservation; if you want to stay at single room we can arrange it with extra fee. For Extra Days; it is possible to organize, such as; for dormitory 25 EUR, Hotel (3*) 30 EUR, Hotel (4*) 40 EUR – per person for one day. Deposit is non-refundable.

Technical & Artistic Information

All the basics are providing by the festival organization, such as lightening, one stage side for musicians with microphones participation groups. The groups will perform at the open-air stages mostly during the nights, however some daily performances will be in festival schedule programmed too.

Festival Medical Insurance

All groups are required to secure medical insurance before coming to festival. Organization won’t pay any medical or hospital cost incurred at the festival period. However for any emergency situation, we will provide an ambulance and it will be always ready for 24 hours.

Festival Transportation

If group is going to by plane, we are going to hire the bus for their all ground transportations. Groups will pay this bus cost. Bus, serves throughout the festival dates (Airport transfers, excursions program transfers (group will visit historical area in Europe side only once), and transfers to the field performance). At the first day of the festival transportation fee should be paid to the festival committee. The cost of BUS for max. 44 persons, totally 1600 €. If group number of participants is less than 18 person bus cost is 1200 €.

Festival Activities:

  • Group will visit historical area in Europe side in Sultanahmet, BLUE MOSQUE (Sultanahmet mosque- free entry) and SAINT SOPHIA), TOPKAPI PALACE, GRAND BAZAAR.

  • PRIVATE BOAT TOUR one day during the festival period, there will be a swimming possibility at MARMARA SEA; Participation groups will be able to see PUBLIC BAZAAR and big SHOPPING CENTERS. On the other hand, if group desire, will be able to join in well known TURKISH BATH (HAMAM).
  • Transportation Information:

  • If the folklore groups use their own buses, they will not pay us these transportation fee. The groups are going to pay the bus parking fees (there is no parking fee for accommodation and performance place), tolls and gasoline expenses during the festival.

  • All ground transportations will take almost 250 km and festival committee won’t give any petrol for all ground transportations to the buses.
